Gary Neville names two players Manchester United must keep and four they could let go

Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes the club need to retain two players above all others during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s announcement as the permanent manager of the Red Devils has increased the amount of speculation surrounding who Man Utd may sign next, but it hasn’t stopped rumours of players leaving.

The likes of David De Gea and Paul Pogba have been linked with Real Madrid, while Barcelona are reportedly interested in Marcus Rashford.

Neville has picked out two of those three players in De Gea and Rashford as United’s priorities when deciding the talent they should attempt to stop leaving.

Whilst Rashford is expected to stay and sign a long-term deal, the same cannot be said about De Gea, with Neville adamant the duo must stay put at Old Trafford.

“At the moment I look at the squad and I actually don’t think it’s as bad as everybody makes out in terms of the position the club is in,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“The two that I’d be really worried about are David De Gea and Marcus Rashford with one or two years left. There’s talk of Rashford not signing his contract, De Gea not signing his contract. I think Rashford will sign and I don’t think that’s in doubt.”

Meanwhile, Neville expects his former side to offload talent in the summer and he predicts that United will not miss the likes of Matteo Darmian, Antonio Valencia, Juan Mata and Ander Herrera.

Neville added: “There’s a lot of players Ole has to make a decision on. Is it a big loss if Darmian leaves? I don’t think it’s the end of the world. Is it a big loss if Antonio Valencia leaves? He’s had problems with injuries, I think United need a new right back. Ashley Young, he’s fine to stay there for another 12 months.

“I think Mata and Herrera are interesting ones in terms of how the club approach that. I think they will be players that are wanted by other clubs. For me it wouldn’t be the end of the world if they both left.”
