Gary Neville names the situation at Arsenal that could turn 'sour' after Everton defeat

Gary Neville believes the situation between Arsenal and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could turn "sour" following Mikel Arteta's decision to snub him against Everton.

The Gunners captain, who is now without a goal in his last six matches, was left on the bench for the defeat at Goodison Park, but did come on in the second half.

Arteta turned to the bench before bringing Aubameyang on and decided to choose Eddie Nketiah instead, something Neville has predicted the Arsenal skipper will not be a huge fan of.

The former Manchester United defender thinks the situation between club and captain could turn "sour" following the defeat, where Aubameyang missed a glorious opportunity to equalise with seconds remaining of the match.

Neville said on Sky Sports' Monday Night Football: "I think there will be a problem with Aubameyang off the back of this game. I don't think he will like the idea of Nketiah coming on, I don't think he will like the idea of being snubbed, full stop.

"It's one of them that is hard to play as a side foot across into the far corner. You almost want it with your left foot, to guide it and bend it past Pickford into the far corner.

"It's a little bit awkward and unnatural with how he's tried to finish it. Not for me to tell him how to finish.

"Yeah, it is going to (a problem is brewing there), isn't it? There's always a bit of a bug there between Arteta and Aubameyang. I know he's the captain, but he leaves him out.

"I think it's a little bit awkward. I suspect if they could get money for him and get someone else and I suspect if Aubameyang could go somewhere else and move on, then he probably would as well. It could turn a little bit sour."
