Gary Neville names shock Man City banana skin that could boost Liverpool's hopes

Crystal Palace famously dented Liverpool’s title hopes in 2014 - but Gary Neville feels the South Londoners could this time boost their rivals’ hopes of a first Premier League crown.

The Eagles memorably came back from three goals down to draw 3-3 with the Reds, and Manchester City ultimately went on to claim that year’s title.

Liverpool and City are again locked in an enthralling title tussle this year, with the latter currently leading the way by one point.

And with just six top-flight remaining, it’s a crucial run-in for both teams as they look to secure the coveted trophy.

Most City fans will look ahead to the Manchester derby as their hardest match on paper, but Neville reckons next weekend’s clash at Palace could be just as tough.

Barcelona chief hints Matthijs de Ligt is a 'done deal'

Speaking on Sky Sports ahead of Liverpool’s clash at Southampton on Friday night, he said: “A lot of people are focusing on that Manchester derby, Liverpool fans are.

“Manchester City fans are worried that they’ll go to Old Trafford and it’ll be tough.

“But you’ve got to remember, the last couple of seasons City have dismantled United at Old Trafford.

“You look at the game next Sunday, Crystal Palace away for City.

“I see that as being equally dangerous as going to Old Trafford. I don’t think its always the games you expect against the teams you expect that you will drop points against.

“It’s the teams you don’t expect sometimes that can catch you out. You are always going to imagine and predict what might happen, but it's very difficult to do that.

“I think Crystal Palace next week is tough for Manchester City.”
