Gary Neville names Premier League front three who 'beat' current Liverpool attack

Gary Neville has claimed the Manchester United front line of Cristiano Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney will never be surpassed - even by Liverpool's current dazzling trio.

United lifted the domestic title and Champions League in 2007/08 with those three stars firing in the goals.

And Sky Sports pundit Neville believes their exploits cannot be matched.

He told the Football Show: "Let's be clear, Tevez for a year with Ronaldo and Rooney was just breathtaking. It was out of this world, it really was.

"Not just because of the quality of the players, there was this real selfish, horrible, nasty determination to those three.

"Ronaldo in a different sense on the pitch as he would go around kicking people, hassling, hustling, he was a menace with his performance levels.

"Rooney and Tevez were streetfighters but with unbelievable ability.

"There was something about that three. You talk about the best three in the Premier League, the best front three, you'll never beat those three.

"You can talk about Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino at Liverpool, I love them to bits, and Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero, Leroy Sane at Manchester City.

"But you look at the front three of Tevez, Rooney and Ronaldo, at their peak, were out of this world."

Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez netted a combined 79 goals in all competitions in 2007/08 on their way to the league and European double.

Salah, Mane and Firmino reached 91 back in 2017/18 - and will be hoping their stellar efforts this term are rewarded with a Premier League crown.
