Gary Neville names four Manchester United players who needed Edinson Cavani transfer

Gary Neville named Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford and Daniel James as the Manchester United players who needed someone like Edinson Cavani to learn from .

Deadline-day signing Cavani has impressed during his short time at Old Trafford, scoring a brace and setting the other goal up in a 3-2 Premier League victory over Southampton last weekend.

His performances have prompted plenty debate over United's other strikers, with Martial in particular coming under the microscope of late having failed to register in the Premier League this season.

The Frenchman top-scored for United in all competitions last term with 23 and Neville believes he is among the players who could benefit from Cavani's presence.

Neville told Sky Sports: "The nervousness from United fans when Cavani came in was due to the experiences that they’ve had with Falcao - that haven’t worked, were last minute and did not look like they were planned.

"Cavani, you have to say, it’s about getting him up to speed, getting him match-fit, and he looks a real threat.

"Greenwood, Martial, Rashford and James - they all look like they need someone who can mentor them, who can show them the way and if he can do that for United this season by playing well himself and also guiding the players, then he’ll be a great signing."
