Gary Neville makes playful Everton jibe ahead of Salford City clash in Carabao Cup

Everton are back in action this evening and back on television, with the Carabao Cup second-round clash against Salford City attracting attention.

Part-owned by a number of Manchester United legends, Salford City's rise into League Two has been well documented and this evening's cup clash will take centre stage.

Among those who has a stake in Salford is Gary Neville, who will be on Sky Sports' co-commentary duties for the match at Goodison Park.

Ahead of the match, the former United and England full-back could not resist taking a playful swipe at Everton on social media.

Salford's Twitter account stated that the game is 'simply the biggest match in our history', as the countdown for the cup clash began on Wednesday morning.

That swiftly got a response from Neville, who shared the tweet and added 'Everton???' along with a laughing face emoji.

Several Blues were quick to comment on Neville's post.

One said: "You've jinxed yourself now. Getting a massive deserved hiding tonight".

While another wrote: "Cheers for the free team talk mate."

Carlo Ancelotti's side are favourites to get the last laugh this evening at Goodison Park, where the winner will travel to Fleetwood Town in the third round.
