Gary Neville makes Manchester United transfer claim following offer for Tottenham's Harry Kane

Gary Neville has claimed that he would happily include Manchester United striker Anthony Martial in a player swap deal but not for Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The Sky Sports pundit and commentator was asked the question during a Twitter Q&A that came less than 24 hours after Spurs were blown away by Arsenal during the North London Derby.

First-half goals from Emile Smith Rowe, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka were enough to earn the hosts a 3-1 win over their arch rivals and pile the pressure on Nuno Espirito Santo in the process.

The Lilywhites have now lost their last three Premier League games and conceded three goals in each of them, including 3-0 defeats to both Crystal Palace and Chelsea.

Hojbjerg has been one of the club's standout performers since arriving from Southampton but the combative midfielder's form has dipped recently, leading to increasingly vocal criticism.

When asked on Twitter whether or not he would swap Martial for the Dane, Neville replied: "I would trade Martial now with the players United have but not for Hojberg [sic]."

The French forward has dropped down the Red Devils' pecking order this season following the arrivals of Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Mason Greenwood and Edinson Cavani also appear to be ahead of him in a striking sense and the return of Marcus Rashford from injury will only limit Martial's chances even more.

United were reportedly willing to include the 25-year-old in a player-plus-cash deal for Harry Kane during the summer transfer window, but no agreement was struck.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has faced plenty of criticism over his continued neglect of the Red Devils' midfield, particularly their lack of a specialised defensive midfielder such as Hojbjerg.
