Gary Neville makes Jadon Sancho demand as Manchester United great makes Chelsea comparison

Gary Neville says Manchester United need to end any speculation surrounding Jadon Sancho.

After it appeared that hopes of signing Sancho were over earlier in the summer, the Reds made a breakthrough in their chase for the Borussia Dortmund star earlier this week.

It has boosted hopes that a deal may be done before the delayed transfer deadline at the start of next month.

Neville believes United are four signings short of being able to break into the Premier League top two - and that includes a right-winger.

But he also argued that talk around Sancho is becoming a distraction and that United need to decide one way or the other over whether they will do a deal this summer.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the United great made a comparison with Chelsea and said it is just a case of the Reds trying to make progress in the Premier League this summer.

He said: “I think United are in a similar position to Chelsea, they’ve got to make progress from last season.

"I don't have the expectation that they’re going to break that top two this year. They have to make sure they close the gap.

"I want a striker, a centre-half and a right-winger as a must.

"I didn’t say they shouldn’t sign Sancho. They should either put a lid on it, or do it. One or the other - it’s simple - don’t have it dragging on all summer.

"My view on United is getting closer to that top two.”
