Gary Neville makes honest Arsenal admission after aiming accusation at Mikel Arteta and Edu

Gary Neville has admitted that he may have been "a touch harsh" on Arsenal during the opening weeks of the season ahead of the Gunners' Monday night clash with Crystal Palace.

Mikel Arteta's men lost all of their opening three Premier League matches, including on the opening day against Brentford.

But before the international break, the Gunners won three in a row, beating Norwich, Burnley and Tottenham, before drawing with Brighton, significantly easing the pressure on Arteta.

Arsenal were one of the biggest spenders in the summer transfer window and Neville accused both Arteta and Edu that those summer signings had been poor.

"I don't know what the plan is at Arsenal," the pundit said on Sky Sports following the opening day defeat. "The recruitment has been really poor. They are just poor at it compared to other clubs."

But during the most recent edition of Monday Night Football, Neville admitted that his previous opinion may have been a tad hasty, singling out a number of new arrivals who have impressed him.

"They were really depleted," Neville said of the line-up against Brentford on Sky's Monday Night Football.

"If you look at that team on the right that started the game against Brighton two weeks ago, and I did the game the week before against Tottenham. You look at that team it's got good balance.

"The keeper's changed, Gabriel is back alongside White, Tomiyasu's come in who I think is a good foil for White as a right-back because he's played centre-back, so he tucks in alongside him.

"Partey and Lokonga gives them a lot more strength in midfield and that three behind Aubameyang is massively talented, and obviously a good goalscorer up front.

"That team on the right, stays together and Mikel Arteta can stay clear of injuries, will win a lot of football matches. He's got to keep those players fit but maybe we were just a touch harsh in those few early weeks of the season."
