Gary Neville makes bold Paul Pogba prediction despite Man Utd star's penalty miss

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has made the bold claim that Paul Pogba could "be player of the year" this season - much to the bemusement of fellow Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher.

Ruben Neves' stunner cancelled out a fine Anthony Martial opener and eyebrows were raised when Pogba stepped up to take the spot-kick he won, rather than last week's penalty scorer Marcus Rashford.

Rui Patricio saved the France midfielder's thumping effort - his fourth failed penalty since the start of last season - and United were ultimately forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at Molineux.

Pogba subsequently came under fire for the miss but Neville, despite questioning why there had been an on-pitch discussion about the taker, believes the midfielder's performance was a promising one for United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Neville told Sky Sports: "I think he could be the player of the year. That sounds like a bold statement."

Indeed, Carragher certainly thought it was an audacious claim - the Liverpool legend soon interrupted Neville by saying: "Stupid statement!"

United legend Neville, however, stuck to his guns and believes Pogba - who is wanted by Real Madrid this summer - is an integral member of Solskjaer's trophy-chasing squad.

Neville added: "He has the potential to be the best player in this league. He has the biggest personality in this league.

"Manchester United's season rests a lot on him depending on how well he plays. I think he could be the player of the year, he is the one to watch for me.

"A lot of success for United depends on him and whether he can reach his real high standard."
