Gary Neville leaving Twitter because of Liverpool - but Jamie Carragher makes Champions League final promise

Former Manchester United star Gary Neville has posted a tongue in cheek message to his followers on Twitter ahead of the Champions League final tomorrow night.

Neville is well known for being envious of arch-rivals Liverpool this season, with his former club enduring a campaign to forget in the Premier League.

But as Jurgen Klopp 's side prepare to take on Spurs in Madrid, Neville confirmed he taking a break from the social media site, clearly in anticipation of the Reds coming out on top in the showdown and claiming their sixth European crown as a result.

The former defender wrote: "Afternoon all , I will be taking the summer off here. I know you will miss me. See you in August ❤"

But the tweet was quickly pounced on by his fellow Sky Sports pundit and sparing partner, Jamie Carragher, who replied: "If the Reds win I’ll f*****g find you!"

There is no love lost between the pair with Carragher famously taking aim at the 44-year-old after the Reds produced a stunning comeback in the semi-finals against Barcelona .

While the former Reds defender also revealed that Neville had a flight on standby to leave the country had Liverpool been crowned Premier League champions.

“He said he’s going to book a flight, he’s already got it sorted with Emma [his wife], the flights are nearly booked for Papua New Guinea at 9pm on Sunday night," the Reds legend told talkSPORT .
