Gary Neville issues verdict on Manchester United and Man City target Harry Maguire

Manchester United and Manchester City target Harry Maguire has all the attributes of a top defender and his ability on the ball is equal to John Stones.

That’s the view of United icon Gary Neville, who predicts Leicester City will face a stern task this summer to retain the services of the England international.

The 26-year-old first emerged as a target for United last summer after his exploits at the World Cup with England but the Red Devils face competition in the fight for his services from their closest rivals.

Manchester City have identified Maguire as an ideal candidate to fill the void in his City side following Vincent Kompany’s exit and, according to Neville, he has the capabilities to do exactly that.

"If you think of the attributes of centre-backs, he has them in abundance. Leicester fans won't thank me for this, but they're going to be under real pressure to keep him this summer,” he told the Gary Neville podcast.

"We talk about John Stones being good on the ball, I actually think Maguire is the equal of him on the ball.

“A big statement, maybe, as Stones is seen as the composed, ball-playing centre-back, but I think Maguire is just as good on the ball."
