Gary Neville has issued his verdict on Donny van de Beek's Manchester United struggles, dubbing his 18-months at the club so far as 'disrespectful'.
The Netherlands midfielder arrived at Old Trafford with a huge reputation following an impressive spell with Ajax, part of the side that reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.
That brought a wealth of interest in his services but the 24-year-old opted to move to Old Trafford, where it was believed he'd swiftly improve the club's midfield.
However, following that signing, Van de Beek has seen opportunities extremely limited - particularly as a starter, with the majority of his appearances coming off the bench.
He did get another cameo in the 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the derby, coming on as a second-half substitute to replace Fred.
Neville, part of Sky Sports' commentary duty for the game, then gave his assessment of the situation that has developed regarding van de Beek.
"It's been the strangest situation watching Donny van de Beek's Manchester United career, almost disrespectful really," he said.
"Signed for £40m-odd and not given a chance. You can be giving a chance and you don't do well but the boy has hardly played, now he's in there at centre-midfield alongside [Scott] McTominay."
Van de Beek was unable to lead to improvements in the United side in the latter stages of the Manchester derby, with United not threatening their opposition.
Instead, City were closer to extending their advantage as Phil Foden struck the post and Gabriel Jesus was denied a penalty following a challenge from Alex Telles.
