Gary Neville issues scathing seven-word David Luiz verdict after Arsenal red card at Man City

Gary Neville has taken aim at David Luiz after the defender was shown a straight red card against Manchester City.

Having been a surprise omission from the Gunners’ starting line-up, Luiz replaced Pablo Mari after 25 minutes, who was forced off with a suspected hamstring injury.

The night got off to a bad start for the Brazilian when his mistake in first-half stoppage time allowed Raheem Sterling to pounce and fire City ahead.

Then six minutes into the second-half and Luiz’s night went from bad to worse when he was given marching orders for hauling down Riyad Mahrez inside the penalty area.

Kevin De Bruyne made no mistake from the spot and fired Pep Guardiola’s side even further ahead.

And speaking after Luiz was shown his red card by referee Anthony Taylor, Neville couldn’t hold back from taking aim at the former Chelsea man.

“Oh dear. I have nothing to say, really. He never learns. It’s so rash,” he said during his Sky Sports commentary.

“City started playing well about 25 minutes ago - the point where David Luiz came on. It looks like that’s the moment that will give City these points. They have been fantastic.

“You have just got to let it go. We’ve seen it so many times. He’s unable to let that first mistake go. He has to make the second one. Off you go!”
