Gary Neville issues 'apology' video to Liverpool fans

Gary Neville has apologised to Liverpool fans after he mocked Jurgen Klopp's side after they lost to Everton at Anfield.

The Reds suffered a rare defeat to their Merseyside rivals, who scored in each half through Richarlison and Gylfi Sigurdsson.

Klopp 's side remained sixth following the 2-0 loss, but the Toffees are now level on points with their neighbours as the champions continue to struggle.

Reds captain Jordan Henderson left the pitch in the first-half with what looks like another problem to his recurring groin injury, adding to the side's defensive woes.

Neville took to his Twitter page with a glass of wine in hand following the derby at Anfield, and said: "It's been very difficult in mockdown, I mean meltdown, I mean lockdown... to see the demise of the champions."

Some users replied to the ex-Manchester United right-back and now Sky Sports pundit, accusing him of lacking professionalism.

So, Neville took to the social media website today and issued an apology to Liverpool supporters ahead of Arsenal's clash with Manchester City on Sunday - where he was on co-commentary duty with Martin Tyler.

Neville said: "Good morning. Apologies for my slightly unprofessional behaviour last evening. I was in a celebratory mood, which has resulted in these black bags appearing underneath my eyes. Some of my following, trusted and loyal, seemed slightly vexed with my behaviour.

"But I can assure you that my professional stance will return today as I deliver you co-commentary on Arsenal vs Manchester City. Have a lovely day."

Liverpool are now not in action for another week following their disappointing defeat to Everton, with the reigning champions going to Sheffield United next Sunday.

The Blades are rock-bottom of the Premier League table and it goes without saying that it is a must-win for the Reds, who desperately need to rekindle some sort of form before the season concludes.
