Gary Neville: I would be surprised if Maurizio Sarri stays at Chelsea beyond the summer

Gary Neville has claimed that he does not believe Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri will stay at the club beyond the summer.

After Sarri publicly questioned his players' desire after defeat to Arsenal in January, scrutinty centred on whether another Chelsea manager was on his way to losing the problematic dressing room.

After bouncing back with a gritty win against Chelsea in the League Cup semi-final second-leg, the Blues were then battered 4-0 by Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

Sarri's turbulent run of form continued after Chelsea routed Huddersfield 5-0 on the weekend with new signing Gonzalo Higuain scoring twice.

Speaking on Sky Sports though, Neville said that the win will only paper the cracks at Stamford Bridge and the passage to the Italian’s departure has already been laid due to behind-the-scenes politics

“I don’t think Chelsea will change Sarri during the season but there are those warning signs that make you think it will be a surprise if it goes beyond the summer.

“The maximum a manager has got out of those Chelsea players is one year, they’ll do what you say for a year and then say ‘right, I’ve had enough of you’.

“That’s been the nature of the club. No manager can maintain that job for a long period of time, no manager has control.”
