Gary Neville hits out at Manchester United's friendly dig at Newcastle United

Newcastle United are back in Premier League action on Saturday, welcoming Manchester United to a St. James' Park that will once again be without fans.

The lack of supporters is part and parcel of football in 2020, with the usual matchday practices ravaged by the COVID-19 pandemic, but there is a new virus present for this evening's match.

During the international break, the Premier League announced a new pay-per-view structure for matches not originally selected for TV coverage.

Newcastle 's clash with Manchester United is among them, with fans forced to pay £14.95 to watch the game - something which really does take the biscuit.

The Magpies' opponents seem to remain in good spirits though, as the took to social media ahead of the match to engage in some friendly banter.

"At least there's no climbing up 14 flights of stairs to get to the away end at St. James' Park for this one.... Where are you watching #NEWMUN from," they posted on Twitter.

Given the fact that fans would certainly rather be watching from the stands rather than from home and certainly not wanting to pay £14.95 for the privilege.

Understandably, many fans replied to the tweet stating that the club were out of touch - with the comments coming after a difficult week for the Premier League - and Gary Neville also hit out.

After all the drama of the failed Project Big Picture proposals, and the fact that Manchester United were among the leaders with the creation of the plan, clubs are walking a fine line.

Fans clearly believe that Manchester United crossed that line with the odd social media post and it's easy to see why.
