Gary Neville has slammed the idea of needing a Covid passport to attend games as the Premier League discuss whether to introduce them.
They remain in talks over whether fans will have to provide proof of full coronavirus vaccination next season.
No decision as been made with Brentford's clash against Arsenal on August 13 kicking off the new season.
But Neville insists no one should be required to show a passport simply to attend a game.
He said on Twitter : "You shouldn’t need a passport to watch a football match ! Test events have been carried out with great success."

The Premier League is reviewing the latest guidance and working with clubs and supporters to finalise its protocols ahead of the new season.
The Government are still determining what qualifies as a large crowd and which venues may require potential passports, reports Sky Sports, after they eased the majority of restrictions on Monday.
The Premier League's decision will follow the rules imposed by No 10.
Back in April the Premier League wrote to various bodies stating the benefits of Covid passports as a possible idea moving forward.
The letter read: "All of our sports can see the benefit that a COVID certification process offers in getting more fans safely back to their sport as quickly as possible.
"We know that our stadia can only be fully filled with an assurance process.
"This process must ensure that everyone can access stadia and must include arrangements that would verify a negative Covid test or an antibody test or vaccination certification."
Prime Minister Boris Johnson is currently isolating after coming in contact with UK Health Secretary Sajid Javid who has tested positive for COVID-19 .
He has backed the decision to ease restrictions but urged caution.
“If we don’t do it now we’ve got to ask ourselves, when will we ever do it? This is the right moment. But we’ve got to do it cautiously. We’ve got to remember that this virus is sadly still out there. Cases are rising, we can see the extreme contagiousness of the Delta variant,” he said.
