Gary Neville highlights what Tottenham are missing as Jose Mourinho reveals biggest challenge

Here are your Tottenham morning headlines for Monday, March 22.

Neville points out Tottenham's weakness

Gary Neville believes Tottenham are missing a solid centre-back partnership despite Sunday's win over Aston Villa.

“You think about Jose Mourinho ’s teams, they always have dominant defences. He hasn’t got one here," he told Sky Sports.

"The biggest problem in football is if you’re changing your goalkeeper regularly and the next problem is if you haven’t got a frequent centre-back partnership. Jose hasn’t got that.”

Mourinho brought Joe Rodon into the defence on Sunday after Toby Alderweireld missed out through illness, while Japhet Tanganga also started.

Player ratings

Tottenham correspondent Alastair Gold has rated the players following Spurs' win over Aston Villa. Here's a taster.

Hugo Lloris

His only real action of the night was a comfortable low save on 58 minutes as his defence protected him. 6

Japhet Tanganga

Very assured for much of the game and made some big blocks in the Spurs box. Tucked inside quite a lot but when he did attack on rare occasions he looked comfortable on the ball. Made a big claim for the right-back spot after a week of poor performances there from his two competitors for the role. 8

Davinson Sanchez

Other than one missed interception with 10 minutes to go, this was a positive performance from the Colombian who made plenty of big tackles and blocks in his box and marshalled a very young backline well, himself only 24. 7

Joe Rodon

Made an important block in front of goal early in the second half and barely put a foot wrong. This was a very comfortable display from the Welshman. 8

Sergio Reguilon

Had some shaky moments defensively in the first half but was a threat in the Villa half before picking up an injury 10 minutes into the second half. 6

Mourinho talks bouncebackability

Jose Mourinho was asked about the challenge of bouncing back after the Portuguese boss watched his men respond to an embarrassing Europa League collapse with a Premier League win over Aston Villa.

"That’s the challenge, for me and for the group," he said. "That’s the challenge. I told already your colleagues from TV, I told exactly that.

"That’s the next challenge. We are going to lose matches, we are going to play bad, we are going to have not very good performances. But this state of mind, this emotional approach, this team spirit, this sacrifice.

"A guy coming from the bench like Sissoko to play eight minutes, and to give it all in this eight minutes. This kind of situation is the next challenge for myself as a coach. But I think is more of a challenge for them. For them as a group."
