Gary Neville highlights the Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane traits Manchester United's Anthony Martial must adopt

Anthony Martial must make more runs in behind defenders if he's to reach the levels of Liverpool pair Mo Salah and Sadio Mane, according to Gary Neville.

The Manchester United forward has failed to find the net in his last six appearances — scoring just three goals in 2019 — and was an unused substitute in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Sunday.

While Salah (21 goals) and Mane (20) lead the Premier League top goalscorer charts this season, Martial has netted 11 times this term and isn't an automatic pick for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the moment.

And ex Reds captain Neville has offered some advice for Martial and United's other struggling strikers, Alexis Sanchez and Lukaku.

"I look at Anthony Martial who plays in fits and starts," said the Sky Sports pundit.

"You think about the number of runs Mane and Salah make behind the centre-backs, Martial doesn’t do that.

"Martial likes to play when he’s got the ball. I don’t see him running enough without the ball."

On Lukaku and Sanchez, who haven't scored since a Lukaku strike in the comeback win at PSG, Neville added: "If Ole wants to play that involves a lot of sprinting which could be a counter-attacking style. I look at Romelu Lukaku, I look like Alexis Sanchez who looks like his legs are struggling.

Sanchez, to be fair, looks like he has a physical problem and Lukaku looks like he has a physical problem."

Anthony Martial must start to repay Manchester United's five-year contract faith
