Gary Neville has spotted the big change in Jose Mourinho at Tottenham after Man United exit

Gary Neville believes Jose Mourinho has rediscovered his love for football at Tottenham Hotspur after a difficult time off the pitch at Manchester United.

The Portuguese will be aiming to move his side into the top four of the Premier League this afternoon as they take on his former club Chelsea.

Having taken over from Mauricio Pochettino in November, Spurs are now back in contention for a Champions League spot next season.

Jose Mourinho: I am 100% Tottenham

The move to North London has also seen a chance in mood for Mourinho compared to his final days at Old Trafford, something which Neville picked up on in speaking to Sky Sports.

"I do think that he spent his six months out of the game reflecting on his manner at times with the media," Neville said.

"Jose Mourinho won everybody over when he came to Chelsea in the mid-2000s with his charm, the cheekiness.

"Yes, there was a competitive element to him at time, he could be cantankerous with interviews and reporters, but that was balanced off by some really good interviews where he came across as someone that you really liked.

“That seemed to have been lost at Manchester United. There were times when you were watching him, and it looked to me like a real chore to do interviews.

“He questioned the pundits a lot, he questioned the media a lot, I think ultimately being in Manchester and away from his family in London, I know the whole hotel thing he put down to the fact that he couldn’t cook, but still from a PR point of view, it wasn’t a clever move.

“Realistically, it doesn’t matter where you stay if you’re winning football matches, but if things are going wrong, people are going to point to little things like that.

“I think from a PR point of view, I think he knew he had to get back to that charm offensive and that figure that looked like he loved football.

Neville added: "At United, there were problems for him football wise, but also from his own point of view. Maybe even style as well, this park the buss thing that ultimately Jose’s been tagged with becomes a problem for him, and I think he also wants to get rid of that.”
