Gary Neville's one-word response to Jamie Carragher's Soccer Aid 2019 shocker

Gary Neville surprised nobody by digging out Jamie Carragher on Twitter after the former defender suffered a torrid first half for England XI against World XI at Soccer Aid.

Carragher received a rough ride from the start at Stamford Bridge and was light-heartedly booed by some supporters due to the Chelsea Liverpool rivalry.

He was defending against nine-time Olympic gold-medallist Usain Bolt, and there was a sign of things to come when Bolt out-muscled Carragher and left him sprawled on the pitch.

That was bad. Certainly. But for the Reds legend, things got worse on the stroke of half-time.

Much worse.

Just minutes before the break Carragher appeared in command when a long ball was tossed forward in Bolt's direction.

Carragher mis-judged the bounce, got caught under the ball in schoolboy fashion and allowed multi-Olympic gold medallist Bolt to score and get the World XI back in the game at 2-1.

Neville clearly enjoyed the error from his long-time rival turned Sky Sports compadre, tweeting: "I was off Twitter! Embarrassing!" with a link of a video to the goal.

Carragher was quick to respond, however, and defended himself, saying: "Read it all day, deceived by the bounce then a miss hit. Nothing I could do T-bag."

He also replied to a Tweet by Paddy Power mocking the error. Carragher said: "It's not a mistake when the ball doesn't bounce properly & the striker miss hits it."

Other Twitter users thoroughly enjoyed the banter between the two Sky Sports pundits.

One, referring to Neville's break from Twitter, said: "I knew that would bring you back lol,", while another added: "Looking forward to the next time he criticises John Stones!"

And one cheeky user couldn't resist a reference to one of Carragher's most famous commentary lines, saying: "BOLT YOU LITTLE DANCER!"

Before Bolt's goal a double from freestyle footballer Jeremy Lynch had given England XI the lead in the match which supports UNICEF.
