Gary Neville 'glad' after Liverpool dismantle Manchester United

Former Manchester United captain Gary Neville has opened up on why he was 'glad' about Liverpool's victory over his old club.

The Reds extended their unbeaten start to their Premier League season with a 2-0 win over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

Goals from Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah were enough for Jurgen Klopp’s side who now sit 30 points clear of their arch-rivals in the table.

And Neville believes the victory was not only a huge moment in Liverpool's season, but also the day where they announced themselves as Premier League winners.

”We’ve just witnessed Liverpool announce they are going to win the league, even though we all knew it,” he said on the Gary Neville Podcast on Sky Sports post-match.

“In this stadium at the end of the game when Mo Salah ran through you just felt they knew that was the moment.

“I don’t think they are going to get what would be a euphoric feeling of a last minute goal to win the title on the last day.

“Yeah it will be emotional when they win the title.

“But that felt like a huge moment, and being in the stadium to witness it… I’m glad I witnessed it.

“I’m glad I witnessed it as a Manchester United fan because you need to suffer sometimes and you need to feel pain.”
