Gary Neville gives scathing verdict on Marcos Alonso and his Chelsea future after West Ham error

Gary Neville has laid into Marcos Alonso for his role in West Ham's winning goal against Chelsea.

The Hammers boosted their hopes of staying in the Premier League with a 3-2 victory thanks to a late winner from Andriy Yarmolenko.

It dealt a hammer blow to Chelsea's hopes of finishing in the top-four, with Manchester United breathing down their necks.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side now sit two points behind Chelsea, with six games of the season remaining.

However, it was Alonso that irked Neville for the Hammers' winner, with the Spaniard pictured level with Yarmolenko as they started their attack.

A lack of defensive awareness saw the West Ham winger burst past his marker, before cutting inside Antonio Rudiger and slamming the ball into the net.

It left Neville furious with Alonso and underlining that his future at Chelsea remains uncertain.

“You see Yarmolenko’s back there with Alonso. Look at him, look at him, look at him," he said during commentary.

"What are you doing, Marcos Alonso? What are you doing? There’s his running back speed - it’s cost Chelsea the game, along with a poor piece of defending from Rudiger.

"Marcos Alonso is level with him at the point where that counter-attack starts and he doesn’t bother. I mentioned it earlier, that’s why he’s under pressure at this football club.

"Frank Lampard will see that. Run back as fast as you can when your team lose the ball, you learn that at age six.”
