Gary Neville gives his opinion on Man Utd re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo

Gary Neville has discouraged his former club Manchester United from re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese superstar is currently at Juventus and there have been reports that he could be moved on this summer, as the Italian giants look to reduce their wage bill and rejuvenate their squad this summer.

It has been suggested that a return to Old Trafford could be on the cards for the forward, who is now aged 36 and in the autumn of his career.

United would be one of a select group of clubs who could be able to finance a deal for the legendary forward, who helped win three Premier League titles and a Champions League crown with the club between 2003 and 2009.

Despite Edinson Cavani penning a new contract at the club for another year, it is believed that United are in the market for two new attackers: a right-sided forward and another striker.

Neville was holding a question-and-answer session on his Twitter account on Monday evening, where he was fielding a selection of questions from his followers.

The former right-back responded to a tweet asking whether “Should united resign Ronaldo? this summer, but Neville did not believe this would be a good idea.

Neville wrote: “Love him but think it’s better to leave the memories where they are.”

Ronaldo scored 118 goals in 292 appearances for United between 2003 and 2009, where he won nine trophies and established himself as one of the greatest forwards in football.

He joined Real Madrid for a then world record transfer fee of £80million, going on to become the club’s all-time leading scorer with 450 goals in 438 appearances.

The Portuguese then joined Juventus in 2018, and despite scoring 101 goals in the three seasons since - he may be moved on this summer.

There has also been speculation that Ronaldo will return to Sporting CP - where he began his professional career - after his mother publicly celebrated the club’s first league title since 2002 earlier this month.
