Gary Neville explains why Manchester City's win over Burnley would have had Sir Alex Ferguson's seal of approval

Gary Neville compared Man City's nail-biting 1-0 win over Burnley to the type of victories Manchester United used to clinch under Sir Alex Ferguson.

City sneaked over the line in more ways than one Man City show exactly why they're Premier League title favourites at Burnley with Sergio Aguero scoring a 63rd minute goal that only just crossed the Clarets' goal-line. The three points ensured Pep Guardiola's men leapfrogged Liverpool at the Premier League's summit once again.

And United great Neville said such victories are the "measure" of champions — in the mould of Ferguson's United.

The Sky Sports pundit said: "I remember when we were going for titles, Sir Alex used to love 1-0 wins because he felt that was a measure of a champion team.

“To really be pushing for that goal, get the goal — not get the second but have to be flawless defensively and not make a mistake, knowing that one mistake now by a Manchester City defender, one bad pass, one goalkeeping error, one defensive error costs them the title.

"You come through it, you see it off and that is a true champion team, it really is."

Both City and Liverpool maintained their incredible winning runs to ensure the gap between the two remains a solitary point.

Guardiola's side must beat Leicester and Brighton in their final two games to guarantee the Premier League title and become the first team since Ferguson's United in 2009 to retain the trophy.

And Neville added: “You don’t always win four of five nil like Liverpool did on Friday — Liverpool were breathtaking on Friday.
