Gary Neville explains why Man Utd should rest players against Man City

Gary Neville has added more spice to the Manchester derby debate by suggesting Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must rest players.

Many Manchester United fans are so desperate for Liverpool to fall short in the Premier League title race that they would happily see their cross-city rival win the lot if it means Jurgen Klopp's team miss out.

That, of course, would probably mean City winning at Old Trafford.

That's not something that sits comfortably with Neville - but he has now suggested they make changes for the big game on April 24.

"Sunday away to Everton is the most winnable of the games," Neville said on Sky Sports Monday Night Football.

Gary Neville explains why he is HAPPY at Man Utd's downturn in form

"If they beat city but lose to Chelsea , they are still in and around the top four.

"If they lose to City but beat Chelsea, they are in the top four.

"So if they were to win against Everton on Sunday, the game to change players around a bit would be the City game."

As co-pundit Jamie Carragher put his head in his hands, Neville added: "That's not them going into the city game thinking United can lose the game, they have to win.

"But with four games in ten days you can't play the same eleven players.

"My view would be that if they beat Everton on Sunday then make two or three changes against City, whilst still trying to get the result."

The former United right-back has already said he couldn't stomach City doing the clean sweep.

Jamie Carragher reveals why Mohamed Salah is not Liverpool's most important player

"I'm not keen on Liverpool winning the league, but I am less keen on Man City winning the quadruple," he said.

"I don't think both teams will be perfect towards the end of the season."

Neville believes City will retain the title while Carragher thinks his old club will lift their first title in 29 years.

But they both say the two sides will drop points with two draws between now and the rest of the season.
