Gary Neville explains why Jordan Pickford summed up Everton defeat to Tottenham

Gary Neville issued a furious criticism of Everton in their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

In a dull game, both teams struggled to create chances but the Toffees were particularly poor as they put in a disjointed display.

When centre-back Yerry Mina ran forward up front for the last few minutes of the game, Neville voiced his anger on Sky Sports.

Arguing it was too little, too late, Neville argued that the players could not just be satisfied at losing by a single goal in a tight game.

He said: "I hope these Everton players get on the bus and are badly hurting.

"Not just be happy they only lost 1-0, it's not good enough, this.

"It's boring. If you can't call upon your fans at a football match, you have to look like you're desperate to change the momentum of the game.

"I've not seen any urgency at all. There's a little bit now, Mina's making the maddest run forward I've ever seen to play centre-forward.

"That should have been 10 minutes ago."

When Jordan Pickford's long ball towards Mina could only find the diminutive Bernard, Neville said it summed up the Toffees' poor display.

Neville fumed: "He hits Bernard - he's 4ft 6in. He's the shortest player on the pitch. That about sums it up."
