Gary Neville explains why he loved Harry Maguire's Manchester United debut

Gary Neville has revealed seven reasons why he loved Harry Maguire's debut for Manchester United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer handed the centre back his first start in the 4-0 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford on Sunday and was awarded Man of the Match after a solid display alongside Victor Lindelof.

The England international was also influential in United's attack and started the move which led to Anthony Martial scoring United's second.

And Neville explained why he was so impressed with the world's most expensive defender.

He tweeted: "I loved Maguire yesterday. Top CB’s don’t sweat, look calm, don’t spend time on their backsides, win headers, are composed on the ball, cover others and lead by example.

"It’s only early but he demonstrated all those qualities. No sign of the price tag or OT phasing him either."

It wasn't only Neville who was impressed with the centre back. Jose Mourinho, who was alongside Neville in the Sky Sports studio also praised the 26-year-old after his solid performance.

“I think he fully deserved the Man of the Match. I think he was solid like a rock and as we know it’s very important for a team to have that, not just the tactical knowledge but that personality, that sense of reading the game, of being alert all the time and the confidence to play. He was fantastic," Mourinho said on Sky Sports.

"I think he gave the team confidence. A team can be very dangerous in attack but if you feel that the defensive mistake is around the corner, it takes your confidence to play. You don’t play as well as you can.

"When you feel that there, it’s something that really to allow you to play, you are much more confident to do it. Maguire was good, Lindelof was good. As I’ve always said, Lindelof can be a very good player and with Maguire I feel they can make a very good couple."
