Gary Neville explains what Manchester United must do over the winter break

Gary Neville has urged Manchester United to regroup during the winter break in order to push on for the last few months of the season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side missed another opportunity to close the gap on fourth placed Chelsea when they drew against Wolves on Saturday evening, having seen Frank Lampard's side drop points against Leicester earlier in the day.

The goalless draw against Wolves was United's last game before the winter break and, with a big clash against Chelsea their next game on February 17, Neville wants to see his former team refocus during the next two weeks.

"I think Manchester United need to regroup during their winter break. It's been a tough time for them in this last month or so and they need to get away, have a break and get ready for the Chelsea game," Neville said.

"It's a pivotal game in their season. If Manchester United win that game they're back in business, if they lose they're in trouble in terms of qualifying for the Champions League and they'll maybe start to focus on the Europa League as their only realistic chance of getting into it.

"Not just the players, the coaching staff have taken a real battering over the last couple of months.

"They're so inconsistent and with that comes a lot of pressure. I sense the first week off will be about rest and recuperation and the second will be really focusing on that Chelsea game."

Had United beaten Wolves, they would have closed the gap on fourth placed Chelsea to five points and Luke Shaw rued the missed opportunity after the game.

"To be honest I’m really, really disappointed especially with the way the games have been going recently,”  Shaw told MUTV.

“We haven’t been picking up too many points and today was massive for us with Chelsea dropping points. It seems to keep happening with teams around us dropping points and we don’t end up closing the gap and we are suffering from that. We needed to win.”
