Gary Neville explains the seven qualities Harry Maguire showed on Man Utd debut

Gary Neville has revealed the seven qualities that a high quality centre back possesses and Harry Maguire showed on his Manchester United debut.

England star Maguire became the most expensive defender of all time last week when he completed his £80million move from Leicester City.

He made his United debut against Chelsea on Sunday - with the Red Devils completing a 4-0 hammering of their top six rivals.

As well as keeping a clean sheet, Maguire won more aerial duels, cleared the ball more times and made more interceptions than anyone else on the pitch.

Impressively, he also didn't need to attempt a tackle throughout the clash, with his new teammates apparently nicknaming him Dennis the Menace .

And the performance caught the eye of United legend and Sky Sports pundit Neville.

"I loved Maguire yesterday," Neville tweeted on Monday morning. "Top centre backs don’t sweat, look calm, don’t spend time on their backsides, win headers, are composed on the ball, cover others and lead by example.

"It’s only early but he demonstrated all those qualities. No sign of the price tag or Old Trafford phasing him either!"

And Marcus Rashford had bagged a double, with Anthony Martial and Daniel James also getting on the score sheet.

Maguire explained after the game what he told his fellow defenders in the finale of the victory at Old Trafford.

"I was reiterating on the pitch that 'we need to concentrate now', even after three and four (goals)," Maguire told Sky Sports.

"We wanted a clean sheet. We knew coming into the season that there was only two clean sheets here last year.

"We've really got to make this a fortress and make this our place to come and score.

"It's a good start. We're not getting carried away but we'll keep working and keep improving."
