Gary Neville explains the mistake Manchester United may have made with Ander Herrera

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville believes that the club may have made a mistake concerning Ander Herrera.

The former Athletic Bilbao midfielder sees his contract at Old Trafford expire at the end of the season and he is expected to join Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

That would leave Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side with a significant void to be filled in the summer window and Neville believes a mistake may have been made concerning the 29-year-old.

“I think the situation with him is he’s not likely to disrespect the club, he’s been a great professional, but all the speculation is about him going to Paris Saint-Germain,” he said on commentary duty for Sky Sports.

Manchester United allowed his contract to run down, if they wanted him maybe the decision should have been made a little earlier.”

Signed from Basque club Athletic Bilbao in 2014, Herrera has made over 130 Premier League appearances for United in his five years at Old Trafford, lifting the FA Cup, League Cup and Europa League during that spell.
