Gary Neville disagrees with Man Utd fans over Man City and Liverpool scenario

Gary Neville can't side with the Manchester United fans who would prefer Manchester City to win the quadruple than Liverpool ending their Premier League title wait.

Some United supporters say they are so desperate for their rivals to suffer championship agony they would happily trade for City winning the lot.

But that's not something that sits comfortably with the Old Trafford legend.

Neville said on Sky Sports Monday Night Football: "I'm not keen on Liverpool winning the league, but I am less keen on Man City winning the quadruple.

"I don't think both teams will be perfect towards the end of the season.

Jamie Carragher explains why Eden Hazard has to ditch Chelsea for Real Madrid

"With the Champions League thrown in I just don't think it will happen.

"To be honest with you, I'm not sure about that in any way, shape or form, I honestly am not."

Neville believes City will retain the title while co-pundit Jamie Carragher thinks his old club will lift their first title in 29 years.

But they both say the two sides will drop points with two draws between now and the rest of the season.

Carragher reckons former manager Rafa Benitez could come back to haunt the Reds with his Newcastle side - but they'll still do the business.

Unai Emery hails Barcelona star ahead of summer transfer window

"There's two reasons, really," he explained.

"I think Liverpool will get to the Champions League semi-final, and I think the Newcastle game will be in between two games against either Barcelona or two games against Manchester United .

"So I don't think it'll be an easy game, and Rafa Benitez as a manager, the way he sets up, he'll make it difficult for Liverpool."

"People might say, 'oh, he's an ex-Liverpool manager, he'd like to see Liverpool win the league', he might, I don't know, but I'm not sure really.

"If he'd won the league himself he might say, 'OK, you can win one', but I don't think he'll want Jurgen doing something he hasn't done, maybe.

"I don't think there'll be any favours, and I think the way Rafa sets up tactically, he could go five at the back, and it will be difficult for Liverpool to play."
