Gary Neville disagrees with fears over Bruno Fernandes at Manchester United

Gary Neville has shot down fears that Bruno Fernandes is too easily wound up at Manchester United.

The Reds midfielder was involved in a clash with Arsenal defender Cedric Soares during Saturday's goalless draw at the Emirates.

After being caught by Cedric's trailing arm, Fernandes hit the ground and then got into the face of the German when he returned to his feet.

Cedric was booked for the incident but Fernandes then caught Granit Xhaka in a tackle moments later, having clearly been still riled up by the incident.

Fernandes avoided a booking for the tackle, which prompted some surprise.

United legend Neville was commentating on the game and admitted that Fernandes can sometimes get heated during matches. Yet he argued this is a key part of the influential midfielder's game and helps to make the Portuguese start who he is.

"You can [wind him up]. But that's what makes him what he is, he's the energy in the team," said Neville on Sky Sports.

"He's United's best player with the ball and without the ball because the press starts from him as well.

"He's got them going, in and out of possession, and he's got that fire in him as well."

Speaking post-match, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also touched on the incident and said Fernandes cannot afford to let his temper get the better of him.

He said: "He's a winner, of course, he's just got to watch it so it doesn't boil over.

"Little bit of a stamp on Xhaka but that's Bruno, he wants to win, he wants to tackle.

"He's a clean player, he wants to win and he almost won it with a shot over the bar when he nipped inside David Luiz, so unlucky.

"I'm very pleased to have him, he's been here a year now and long may that continue and hopefully he'll have a super successful time."
