Gary Neville delivers verdict on Manchester United midfielder Fred in Arsenal game

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville believes Fred is still to justify his price tag.

The Brazilian joined the Reds from Shakhtar Donetsk for £52million in the summer of 2018, with United beating off competition from Manchester City for the midfielder's signature.

And despite arriving with a reputation as one of the up and coming stars in world football, the 26-year-old has struggled to nail down a place in United's starting line-up, and Neville is struggling to see what type of midfielder he is.

“I’m not sure [on Fred]," Neville told Sky Sports during United's clash with Arsenal on Monday niight.

"I’ve not seen anything of him in the 12 months he’s been here to justify the price tag.

“There’s been flashes, he played a really good game away at PSG in the Champions League, he takes the ball, he’s tidy on it, but I don’t see a goalscorer, a defensive midfielder, a runner, so I’m not quite sure what I do see.

"For £60m, you’d like to fit into one of those categories.”
