Gary Neville says Manchester United should offer Tottenham Daniel James as well as two other stars in a bid to land Harry Kane this summer.
It has been widely reported England captain Kane wants to leave Spurs this summer in a bid to win silverware.
Tottenham's seventh-place finish in the Premier League means they will be playing in the Europa League Conference next term.
Kane recently revealed to Neville himself that he will be seeking talks with Spurs chairman Daniel Levy this summer over his future.
"It's a moment in my career where I have to kind of reflect and see where I'm at and have a good, honest conversation with the chairman," Kane said.
"I hope that we can have that conversation. I'm sure that he'll want to set out the plan of where he sees it, but ultimately it's going to be down to me and how I feel and what's going to be the best for me and my career at this moment in time."
United, along with Manchester City and Chelsea, have been mentioned as possible destinations for Kane should he move on from north London, and Neville has proposed a swap deal as a means to getting a deal over the line.
Wales winger James, along with two other United players, are suggested as makeweights, with Kane's price tag likely to be well in excess of £100million.
“It’s difficult. City don’t tend to break their budget do they, £65m/£70m [is their transfer record] – they’re not going to get him for that," Neville said on Sky Sports.
“So it’s whether they could get a player to Tottenham that would makeweight the deal. And I think that’s what United maybe have in (Anthony), Martial, James and (Jesse) Lingard.
“They’re types of players you could send there [to Spurs] plus a chunk of money and it might make Daniel Levy happy, I don’t know.”
James has struggled for game-time over the course of his two years in Manchester and will be hoping for a strong European Championships this summer to convince manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to stick with him next season.
James signed for the Old Trafford club from Swansea City in June 2019 for a fee in the region of £15million.
