Gary Neville delivers honest Thomas Tuchel verdict after Chelsea's defeat vs Man City

Manchester United legend Gary Neville has questioned Thomas Tuchel's tactics during Chelsea's loss to Manchester City.

The Blues struggled to impose themselves on proceedings as Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus netted the only goal of the game in the 53rd minute.

Jesus worked some space in the box before his shot deflected off Italian international Jorginho, leaving Edouard Mendy rooted to the spot.

City controlled large parts of the game whilst reducing the west London outfit to just five shots all game, none of which were on target.

Chelsea boss Tuchel opted to field a defensive line-up, deploying five defenders whilst also choosing a flat midfield three of N'Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic, a decision that Neville was understandably perplexed by.

“I thought Chelsea should’ve changed it,” Neville told his Sky Sports podcast.

“I thought Tuchel – he is one of the bravest managers in the last 12 months in what he’s done – I just thought when it wasn’t working with the two up top and three in midfield, it was quite clear City were getting far too much joy.

“I thought he might have changed it after 20, 25 minutes.

“Then he obviously let it go and I thought it gave City so much confidence.”

Tuchel will be hoping to bounce back this week as his side travel to Turin to face Italian giants Juventus in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Blues started their European defence with a 1-0 win against Russian outfit Zenit Saint Petersburg as club-record signing Romelu Lukaku scored a second-half header after an inch-perfect Cesar Azpilicueta cross.
