Gary Neville delivers exciting Mikel Arteta verdict as Arsenal complete £1m transfer

Here's all the news from around the Emirates Stadium over the past 24 hours.

Arsenal sign goalkeeper Runarsson

Arsenal have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson from Dijon.

The Iceland international has signed a four-year contract in a deal understood to be worth around £1m.

The Gunners were in search of a new backup goalkeeper to Bernd Leno after the £20m sale of Emiliano Martinez to Aston Villa.

Mikel Arteta: Nketiah is good enough to start

Arsenal are still reportedly considering a move for Brentford’s David Raya, so Runarsson could become the club’s third choice.

But the 25-year-old was highly rated at Dijon and worked with Arsenal goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana while at Danish club FC Nordsjaelland.

Mustafi claims there is ‘no better league’ than Serie A amid Lazio rumours

Shkodran Mustafi has been linked with a return to Italy, with reports of interest from Lazio.

According to Corriere della Sera, the German defender could join the Serie A club in a potential deal worth between €10m and €12m.

And Mustafi, whose contract at Arsenal expires in the summer, was full of praise for the Italian top-flight back in 2014, while at Sampdoria.

“Someone had to Google my name to find me when I arrived at Samp,” he told Il Secolo XIX - as per Football Italia. “But I think I’ve played well enough to make sure that doesn’t happen anymore!

“In England, I grew up a lot in terms of athleticism, but at Samp, I have become the complete defender.

“There is no better League than the Italian one if you want to improve in my role.”

Neville says Arteta is ‘punching above his weight’ at Arsenal

Gary Neville has claimed Mikel Arteta is performing above expectations at Arsenal having taken the job in December.

The Gunners have won the FA Cup and Community Shield under the Spaniard, who has overseen a significant improvement since arriving to replace Unai Emery.

And former Manchester United defender turned Sky Sports pundit Neville has praised the work done by Arteta over the last few months.

“I think Mikel Arteta is punching above his weight,” he said on his podcast . "He is going above and beyond the players he has. The shape and the organisation, things we have criticised Arsenal for in the past, is good.

“They are not finishing in the top four like Arsene Wenger used to get criticised for but they look like a team which is more cohesive. It has continued from the end of last season and he is doing a great job.

“I just think Mikel Arteta would love that £150 million that Frank Lampard has got this summer.”
