Gary Neville criticises Manchester United board over transfers

Gary Neville doesn't think any manager has been fully backed by the Manchester United board since Sir Alex Ferguson left.

United have spent over £200m on transfers since Solskjaer took over, including over £75m on five new signings in the summer.

However, they ended the transfer window without priority target Jadon Sancho and Neville, when discussing United's chances of winning the title, said Solskjaer hasn't been equipped with the tools to do so.

Neville told Sky Sports after the derby: “I think last season was massive, finishing third. But I think now he has to get closer to City and Liverpool, as well as dominating matches.

"I don’t see it at this moment in time with the performances I’m watching. They’re not anywhere near good enough. He’ll keep putting a positive spin on it, but the reality is he knows they’re not performances that are going to win titles.

"I’ve still got the thing in the back of my mind with this club. To allow a manager to win a title, you’ve got to arm him with the players to do so.

"The ownership, the recruitment department, whatever you want to class them as, have they done that?

"He needed another centre-back, he needed a right winger but they were playing with Pogba on the left today and Greenwood on the right.

"They have six midfielders and they’re trying to get them into a team. Square pegs in round holes all of the time, so I don’t think they’ve given any manager here, in the last five or six years, a team that can win the title.”
