Gary Neville believes Pep Guardiola is following Sir Alex Ferguson's example by building a new era at Manchester City.
City continued their fantastic form on Saturday, stretching their winning run to 20 consecutive victories by beating West Ham 2-1.
As a result, it extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table to 12 points, making them firm favourites to clinch their third title in four years.
With Manchester City now relying on a different core group of players to previous title triumphs, Neville believes Guardiola is ushering in a change of guard at the Etihad Stadium, as Ferguson did on many occasions at Old Trafford.
"He's developed a team, you think about Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, he built great teams over three or four years," he told the Gary Neville Podcast.
"Then he'd change it and build another great team. I think Pep, you think of the end of the Kompany era, Aguero, Silva, that period in Man City's history and within a year, and it has taken a year, Kompany leaving, they didn't replace him, it feels like he's building that next team, even though there are a few players still of the old one.
"That's what happened at United. Now you sen Dias come in, Cancelo, Zinchenko, Foden has come in now. Gundogan is a different player, he's emerged. Mahrez is a player, two years ago he was bought, but he's a different player in this new team.
"What you've seen is a transition to a new team again. It's what Pep Guardiola needs to do in his career. They're hungry, their football is good and Pep Guardiola is building a second wave of a Manchester City team in some ways."
