Gary Neville casts doubt on England's chances of Euro 2020 success due to 'individual errors'

England's individual errors in defence could derail their chances of winning the European Championships next year, according to Gary Neville.

The Three Lions were largely the architects of their own downfall against Denmark on Thursday as they lost 1-0 at Wembley - their first home defeat in over two years.

Harry Maguire was sent off in the first half for two bookable offences before Denmark were awarded a dubious penalty for a foul by Kyle Walker in the box, in which Jordan Pickford was also arguably at fault.

Christian Eriksen dispatched the spot-kick to leave England third in the Nations League Group A2 standings and must now beat Belgium in Brussels next month to stay in contention for top spot.

Neville, speaking during the in-game commentary for Sky Sports, identified where Gareth Southgate's side are most vulnerable.

"The biggest doubt I have about England winning a tournament next year is individual errors. The backline and the goalkeeper," he said.

Neville also criticised Manchester United captain Maguire for his decision-making after being shown a red card by referee Jesus Gil Manzano.

"It sums up his last four to six weeks," Neville said. "[It's a] terrible time for him.

"I thought he was lucky with the first challenge. In between a yellow and a red.

"That one [the second yellow card] was scruffy play from him. That touch, really slack. And the follow-through as well.

"He made one mistake, don’t make the second. The touch lets him down and that follow-through. He’s got nowhere to go with it, the Spanish referee."
