Gary Neville 'can't separate' Manchester United and Liverpool in Premier League prediction

Gary Neville had admitted he 'can't separate' Manchester United and rivals Liverpool this season.

Although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side were unable to win a trophy last term, they were clear signs of progress on the pitch as United consolidated their runners-up position in the Premier League table to finish ahead of Chelsea and Liverpool.

Despite a difficult pre-season — with players returning back for training at different times, due to international involvement over the simmer — United couldn't have started the new season much better with a 5-1 win over Leeds at Old Trafford.

But they weren't the only side that secured a positive result, with some of their rivals at the top of the table also excelling.

While Manchester City slumped to an opening day defeat, Chelsea and Liverpool both comfortably won their games against Crystal Palace and Norwich respectively.

Neville has since explained that he just can't split United and Liverpool after Jurgen Klopp's side made a solid start to their campaign.

“Honestly, I can’t separate them," Neville told Sky Sports.

"You should say Liverpool because obviously what has happened over the last few years.

“Last season was a major blip for them. Van Dijk back, but I think Manchester United will be an improvement on last season. I alluded Liverpool will miss Wijnaldum and they do need a midfield player.”
