Gary Neville breaks down in tears as Salford City secure Wembley play-off final place

Gary Neville broke down in tears as Salford City secured their place in a Wembley play-off final.

Neville had rushed from his co-commentary position at Manchester United's draw with Huddersfield to catch the end of the action at his non-league club.

But non-league they might not be for much longer, as they are now just 90 minutes from the Football League.

Salford drew 1-1 with Eastleigh on Sunday afternoon, but were victorious in a tense penalty shootout - and the nerves were clearly too much for the Class of '92 co-owner.

Neville, who was pictured earlier in the game rushing to his seat, broke down in tears when goalkeeper Chris Neal saved the decisive spot kick.

Salford now face AFC Fylde, a team who has also risen through the ranks in recent years, at Wembley next weekend, with the winner taking a place in League Two next season.

Earlier in the day, Salford had the best chances of the first half, with Adam Rooney forcing a superb save from Luke Southwood before Carl Piergianni headed Salford ahead two minutes before half-time.

Alex Wynter crashed a volley against the bar for Eastleigh and Neal saved brilliantly from Mark Yeates before Paul McCallum headed the visitors level in the 57th minute.

Scott Wiseman missed a great chance to win it for Salford in the last minute of normal time and Emmanuel Dieseruvwe hit the post in the extra period before the home side held their nerve to book their place at Wembley.
