Gary Neville blasts three Chelsea flops for being 'nowhere near good enough' in Man City loss

Gary Neville has slammed there players he thinks were a big part of the reason why Chelsea lost to Manchester City on Sunday.

Frank Lampard’s side were beaten 3-1 by City at Stamford Bridge after three Sky Blues goals in the first half put them in total control.

And Manchester United legend Neville insists that the three midfielders failed to stop City from dominating.

“I have to say the midfield of Kante, Mount and Kovacic have been nowhere near good enough,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“It’s been nowhere near good enough in this last 20 minutes. They’ve allowed Manchester City to get a real grip in this game.

“The full backs of Chilwell and Azpilicueta have really struggled but it’s that midfield that has really struggled to get a grip.”

Blues boss Lampard admitted that his side failed to stop City where they knew they could hurt them, but insisted that his players had the ability to bounce back from their recent run of three games without a win.

Lampard said after the loss: ”Everyone a month ago saying we could win the league I was pretty sure in terms of a rebuild, the ban and the youth that there were going to be periods of pain we were going to go through.

"When a team gives you a problem it has to be dealt with but we didn't.

"We have character - we have 16 games unbeaten. A month ago people are asking where is this going to go, when are you signing a new contract and now they're saying the opposite.

"I'll be the first to look at myself today but I know where we're at and I know what it takes to churn out the level that City were at today. It's normal that we take knocks but now is a test."
