Gary Neville and Vincent Kompany among stars to back VR elite sports training start-up Rezzil

The likes of Gary Neville, Vincent Kompany and Anthony Watson have invested in a Manchester-based virtual reality elite sports training start-up which is on the verge of launching a new platform.

Rezzil is to unveil Player 22 to the public on Thursday, August 5, following a fundraising round of about £2m.

The new platform has been designed and tested by UEFA pro-licenses coaches.

Rezzil, whose other investors include Thierry Henry, Michail Antonio and Tyrone Mings, has said it wants to 'revolutionise' in-home gaming with the launch.

Co-founder Gareth Thatcher said: "Being a proudly Manchester-based company we’re fortunate to be right in the heart of one of the biggest football destinations in the world.

"We’re part of an incredible tapestry of football talent, expertise and innovation.

"Vincent Kompany and Gary Neville are among our investors and that’s because they believe in the company, understand the applications within sport and share our vision.

"The launch of Player 22 is the next step in our evolution as a company and there’s no better place to start that growth than right here in the North West."

The company's other platform, Rezzil Elite, is aimed at pro athletes and offers tools for post-match analysis, virtual training and rehabilitation, with the ability to monitor and track players’ recovery.

The idea behind Player 22 is that it makes this an option for those who want to play at home.
