Gary Neville and Roy Keane continue to be proven wrong on Arsenal Premier League title bid

Arsenal easily swept aside Fulham on Sunday afternoon to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League. The Gunners beat Marco Silva’s side 3-0 at Craven Cottage to go five points clear of Manchester City.

Goals from Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli and Martin Odegaard ensured it was a comfortable afternoon for Mikel Arteta's team, with Leandro Trossard setting up all three goals. Arsenal were also boosted by the return of Gabriel Jesus, who came off the bench to make his first appearance since undergoing knee surgery following an injury playing for Brazil at the World Cup in November.

"Really happy," Arteta said when asked to give his thoughts on the game. "It’s a really tough place to come, they’re a really well organised team and I think we dominated the game, we created lots of chances, we kept a clean sheet and we won the game in a convincing way. So I’m very happy."

Arsenal still have 11 Premier League games left to play but have shown themselves to be genuine title contenders. In doing so, Arteta's side have made a mockery of Gary Neville and Roy Keane, who failed to back the Gunners at the start of the season.

At the start of Sky Sports' coverage of the game on Sunday afternoon, past quotes from the Manchester United legends were read out. Keane was heard saying: "If you said at the start of this season they’d be there I wouldn’t have believed it."

Another Keane quote said: "In terms of winning the league, Liverpool and City, I can’t see beyond it."

And Neville said: "I don’t feel that any of the other teams, United and Arsenal, are in a position to get close to the top two."

Of course, Arsenal are currently top of the league after 27 games played and are in terrific form. It remains to be seen if they can win their first title in 19 years, but it will be interesting to see Keane and Neville's reaction if they do.
