Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher's Twitter spat over Liverpool being denied Premier League title

Karren Brady is not the most popular person on Merseyside right now.

Writing in her column in the Sun , the West Ham vice-chairman suggested the Premier League season should be declared "null and void" following the coronavirus outbreak.

The Hammers are struggling at the wrong end of the table and it should come as no surprise that the Londoners would be happy for the season to be called off completely.

However, with Liverpool running away with the Premier League title, having lost just one game all season, it would be gut-wrenching for their supporters to have the 2019/20 season called off.

Coronavirus: WHO says Europe now 'the epicentre of the pandemic'

The Premier League was suspended for three weeks on Friday, with no games to be played until April 4 at the earliest after the coronavirus pandemic.

Many believe the suspension could go on longer than that, with the UK preparing for peak coronavirus time, leading to suggestions that the whole season could be declared null and void.

Brady said: "As games in both the PL and in the EFL are affected, the only fair and reasonable thing to do is declare the whole season null and void.

"Who knows who would have gone down or come up if the games have not actually been played in full?

"A huge blow to Liverpool who might be robbed of their first title in 30 years.

"This will be discussed between the PL and the clubs next week at an emergency meeting."

Sky Sports pundits Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville, the best of enemies on the pitch given their Liverpool and Manchester United tendencies and now friends off it as co-workers, have been involved in a heated Twitter exchange around the coronavirus claims.

Piers Morgan supported Brady's comments on Twitter, leading to Carragher to quote retweet it and say: "Have a look at Klopp’s comments compared to Karren Brady’s. Whats fair is to finish the season for teams in every league when the is allowed to start again. The football authorities found a way to put a World Cup in the middle of a season so I’m sure they can sort next season out."

That led to this response from Neville:

That certainly riled former Liverpool man Carragher up.

He responded with this:

Neville then responded with: "Very touchy today James..."

It would be extremely harsh on Liverpool were the entire season to be declared void, given their position at the top of the table.

But if the coronavirus pandemic does go on even longer, there would be the issue of which teams would be relegated, if Liverpool were to be handed the title.

The Neville and Carragher spat is sure to rumble on.
