Gary Neville agrees with Liverpool over their big transfer dilemma

Gary Neville has admitted Jurgen Klopp has a tough balancing act this summer in the transfer market to strengthen the Liverpool squad.

The Reds have enjoyed the best season in their Premier League history, cantering to their first title in over 30 years.

However, Liverpool now have the task of trying to retain their trophy, a skill Manchester United mastered under Sir Alex Ferguson.

With the effects of COVID-19 taking a stranglehold on the transfer market, it remains unclear how much, if any, business Liverpool will do this summer after taking a pass on Timo Werner.

With Liverpool keen to avoid any staleness in the squad, combined with the financial restraints placed on them by the pandemic, Neville has conceded it is a tough job for Klopp and his recruitment team this summer.

“I think you’re right. It’s that balance between stimulating the player," Neville said during co-commentary.

"To think that they are being challenged and the club are moving forward again, but also, you’ve got to show loyalty to the squad and team who have won the Champions League and the Premier League.

"There’s also the financial element, obviously, with what’s happened in the past few months.

"That will have an impact on Liverpool’s ability and other clubs’ ability to spend what they would want to.”
