Gary Neville agrees with Jamie Carragher over Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold

Gary Neville agrees with Jamie Carragher that Trent Alexander-Arnold can become the best English right-back ever.

The Reds ' homegrown talent has already established himself as one of the best in the world in his position, playing an integral role in Liverpool's Premier League and Champions League triumphs in recent seasons.

Whilst Alexander-Arnold has suffered a minor dip in form this season, as have most Liverpool players, Neville has backed the defender to surpass him as his country's best-ever right-back.

"Fantastic player," Neville wrote on Twitter during a Q&A when asked about Alexander-Arnold.

"If he can keep improving his positional work/body shape when the ball is on the opposite side and central he will be the best English Right back ever."

Neville's comments follow on from those of his Sky Sports colleague, Carragher, who commented last year that Alexander-Arnold is rebranding the role of a full-back in the modern era.

With 25 Premier League assists in his previous two Premier League seasons, the 22-year-old has become renowned for his delivery from wide areas and dead-ball delivery.

As a result, Carragher believes a lot more players will grow up and be influenced to play as a right-back.

“I think there is a young lad at Liverpool who will take that mantle from Neville,” Carragher told Sky Sports.

“I once said how people don’t grow up wanting to be Gary Neville but I think a lad from Liverpool will change that.”
