Gary Neville admits being mesmerised by Man City player in warm-up

Arsenal were given a costly lesson on Wednesday night in just how good Ederson is with his feet.

Mikel Arteta's side were trailing 1-0 at the beginning of the second half but pressed hard in the opening minute. Manchester City's goalkeeper made six passes as the visitors pushed high up into the City third restricting space and options.

However, a minute later with play further forward Ederson had more space to receive the ball and launched it over everyone onto the toes of Riyad Mahrez, who would have been in on goal in the box if he had been able to control it better.

The goalkeeper's ability drew appreciation on commentary as Gary Neville purred over his ability to play the ball long.

"It is mesmerising. You watch him in the warmup," the Skysports pundit said. "I don't watch the rest of the players, I just watch him! His passing is scandalous."

Arsenal didn't learn their lesson from that early scare in the second half. A few minutes later, Ederson produced another raking ball that found Kevin De Bruyne out on the right wing. The Belgian glanced it inside with his head to Mahrez, who drove past David Luiz into the box before being brought down for the penalty that effectively ended the match as a contest.

Ederson has been a useful attacking weapon for City since signing in 2017, with opposition sides having to spend more of their match preparations working out how to stifle the goalkeeper.
